No entry signs on motorways

Is there a reason why the no entry signs are not located on the French motorways exit ramps? I have noticed they are located on the motorway entry ramps. Positioning signs in these locations would require a driver to dive the wrong way down the motorway until reaching the next junction. Doesn’t make any sense. Surely these no entry signs should be located on the exit lane to stop drivers entering the motorway in the wrong direction.
