This article is a hit piece

[edit]

Why such a big section for political activities and hardly any mention of his biggest activity which is the growth of ULINE the business? Sorry but this entire article is a hit piece and makes Wikipedia look bad. The references are from hit piece opinion articles. Someone should clean up this bio, maybe make a section describing how he started ULINE and history of that company under his leadership. 107.194.133.235 (talk) 23:57, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can you point to anything faulty in the articles? Is it a hit piece to truthfully point out their extreme far-right activity? 45.72.186.90 (talk) 19:30, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Meet the little-known ‘big fish’ megadonor setting the tone for GOP primary races
by Michelle Ye Hee Lee and Michael Scherer
Washington Post
April 29, 2018
Behind just about every divisive Senate Republican primary this year, an amiable Midwestern businessman is bankrolling the candidate who claims to be the most hard-charging, anti-establishment conservative in the race.
Richard Uihlein, a wealthy shipping-supplies magnate from Illinois who shuns the spotlight, has risen to become one of the most powerful — and disruptive — GOP donors in the country.

Heir

[edit]

Heir to whom? Is David Vogel Uihlein Jr. and family related? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:13, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, right, Schlitz. Same family. Links in article, and their articles, please. Let's connect this.

NY Times content

[edit]

An IP number and two recently created accounts (all of whom are probably the same user) keeps removing RS content about Uihlein financing anti-LGBT efforts in the US, and supporting hard-right candidates. This content should be restored ASAP. Snooganssnoogans (talk) 13:57, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The NY Times source is about bankrolling a school board candidate who fought a move allowing transgender students in girls’ locker rooms. The source is not about being anti-gay in general (not separated from this context of girls restrooms), as your modifications to the cited source make it sound. I have fixed the accuracy. Do not engage in edit warring to remove accuracy fixes. AccuracyFix (talk) 03:19, 3 September 2020 (UTC) BLOCKED SOCKPUPPET.[reply]

FYI, I have semi-protected the page for three days due to obvious and persistent sock-puppetry here. Neutralitytalk 14:37, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Requested edit

[edit]

Edit by AccuracyFix looks like the best compromise to keep the content from NY Times while reducing risk of libel lawsuit for out of context quoting of source. User Neutrality why do you strikethrough AccuracyFix comment on this Talk page? I thought Wikipedia aims to reflect sources and not original opinion. 157.127.124.151 (talk) 02:38, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information to be removed: Uihlein has bankrolled efforts against gay and transgender rights. Replace with: Uihlein bankrolled a school board candidate who fought a move allowing transgender students in girls’ locker rooms. Explanation of issue: The current sentence is out of context thus libel. The replacement sentence fairly reflects the original reference with context. References supporting change: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/07/us/politics/liz-dick-uihlein-republican-donors.html

Not done AccuracyFix is a sockpuppet. The New York Times piece is a news piece and not an "opinion." The NYT piece says that "Opposing gay and transgender rights was frequently a focus of his efforts" which exactly reflects the statement made in the article. And making veiled threats of libel here is not permitted here. Knock it off. Neutralitytalk 16:55, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with AccuracyFix. It is always better to be more precise, especially when dealing with a biography of a living person. CaveWriting (talk) 20:45, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Forbes.com is a WP unreliable source

[edit]

It is clear that the recent additions conflict with WP:BLPBALANCE WP:NPOV WP:BLPREMOVE WP:PUS. Furthermore, the new addition of Reference #8 doesn't belong; is an unreliable source:

WP:PUS Forbes.com is a paid contributor content farm and "must never be used as third-party citations on statements relating to living persons." CaveWriting (talk) 01:10, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The source was written by a Forbes staff member, not a contributor. See WP:FORBES and WP:FORBESCON. Woodroar (talk) 01:31, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
