Re: Changes and updates by RVAPC

[edit]

I am a current employee of Rafael Viñoly Architects PC in New York, and was asked to make these changes to the site. I apologize for editing copyrighted material, but I am new to the Wikipedia community and not entirely familiar with the correct process for making changes. I had assumed that anyone could make edits as long as the information is reliable. Well, I assure everyone that the information I had provided is accurate, up-to-date and copyrighted by Rafael Viñoly Architects PC. I would welcome any useful suggestions for updating the current page before I create a new one... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.253.184.254 (talk) 14:29, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There are two issues here. One is, can RVAPC "donate" its copyrighted material to Wikipedia? I'm not sure, maybe an admin can shed some light. If the answer is yes, there is probably some procedure you need to go through before adding it.
The second issue is that the tone of some of what you were adding in was inappropriate for Wikipedia. Statements like:
"this design secured Viñoly’s reputation as an architect of great imagination and immense professional rigor with a proven capacity to create beloved civic and cultural spaces."
"Viñoly’s work is marked by a sustained structural originality, which transcends the passing fads of architectural movements."
are okay for RVAPC's web site, which is essentially an advertisement, but is not neutral enough for an objective reference work like Wikipedia. Instead, you can state what projects he has worked on, and what awards he has won, and you can quote from those awards in order to establish his reputation. That would be objective evidence of his accomplishments.
So since you're going to have to rewrite this material anyway to be neutral, you probably don't need to solve the copyright issue. Wasted Time R 21:34, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestions. I will be more objective in future edits... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.253.184.254 (talk) 15:55, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Date of death of Rafael Viñoly

[edit]

A statement by Román Viñoly, son of the architect, published on his website states that his father died on March 2. Source: https://vinoly.com/article/statement-romn-violy-passing-father-collaborator-architect-rafael-violy Alfi-nz (talk) 01:29, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
