"It (the mezzaluna) was invented in 1708 by Silvio Pacitti."

We should get some backing for this assertion, or retire it for the time being because it is being quoted all over the Internet. Randal Oulton (talk) 16:19, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Invention of the pizza cutter

[edit]

A claim was made in the article that the pizza cutter was invented by Silvio Pacitti in 1708. This is unlikely as pizza was invented in Italy by Raffaele Esposito in the late 1880s. I've removed the claim, which has had a "citation needed" tag on it for two months. Sunray (talk) 09:16, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And I have found multiple references on the Internet, but none younger than 2009. It seems that this is one of the "facts" that escaped from Wikipedia into the real world.
Having said that, it wouldn't be impossible that pizza cutter is actually older than pizza, since it was used for other purposes before being repurposed for pizza. Nikola (talk) 03:43, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
