Merge with Lampedusa e Linosa

[edit]

Lampedusa e Linosa is the official name for the comune or municipality of these islands. They seemingly have the exact same border definition. This is very much like the example given at WP:OVERLAP. Wizmut (talk) 22:03, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest that we keep Pelagie Islands and make Lampedusa e Linosa a redirect, because the former seems more like a WP:COMMONNAME in English and gets a lot more page views. Wizmut (talk) 22:12, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Strong oppose: Pelagie Islands constitute a geographic feature, while Lampedusa e Linosa is a local government jurisdiction. These are separate topics, and should not be merged. Readers can reasonably be expected to be interested in one topic (e.g. the flora and fauna of the group of Islands) and not the other (e.g. the political composition of the council). The separability of the topics would be clearer with an expansion of both articles, but especially Lampedusa e Linosa. Notice also that the islands have separate entries, e.g. Lampedusa. What do you think of the Greenland example given at WP:OVERLAP? Wizmut (talk) 20:12, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's somewhat misleading, given that Geography of Greenland exists. Put it another way: if Lampedusa e Linosa and Pelagie Islands were not both start-class articles, each article would have a clearly-defined scope with little overlap. Closing, with no merge, given the objections, and no support with stale discussion. Klbrain (talk) 12:09, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
