Prose

[edit]
  • The lead could be greatly expanded by including a second paragraph on the MPSC's history, around equal length to what the lead is now.
    • I've expanded on this some.
  • I would wikilink telegraph as unfamiliar to many readers.
    • Done.
  • "The new state constitution in 1890" – how about "The newly-adopted state constitution in 1890" instead for some extra context?
    • Done.
  • "In 1956, the Utility Act was adopted, giving the commission jurisdiction over" – recommend "In 1956, the Utility Act was adopted, expanding the commission's jurisdiction to".
    • Done.
  • "Sewer services were added to its purview" – recommend "Sewer services were integrated into its purview" to maintain consistency in language.
    • Done.
  • IMO the sentence "In the late 1980s, the Public Service Commission became embroiled in a corruption scandal" is not really needed since it does not add any context to the following paragraph. Though, if this scandal received some media coverage or attention then perhaps that can be included.
    • I've removed this sentence, since this was referring to the criminal conviction of the two commissioners which is subsequently discussed but, as you point out, doesn't really add anything.
  • "are required by the state constitution and law" – I would assume that the state constitution is law?
    • Changed "law" to "state statute" and Wikilinked. While yes, a constitution is law in a political jurisdiction in the strict sense (the "fundamental law" as the French might say), in the US "law" typically refers to statutes passed by a legislature, as opposed to provisions in a political entity's basic governing charter.
      • I see! Thanks for clearing that up.
  • I would wikilink gubernatorial.
    • Done.
  • § Current commissioners should be converted into a list instead because the absence of portraits for Bailey and Maxwell looks rather silly.
