Lithodes aotearoa is a species of king crab found in New Zealand.

Habitat: Western Indian oceans and Southern oceans of New Zealand to Cambell plateau and far as Auckland.

Size: many reported specimens were small. (Range to 12-170mm) The largest known was reported to be over 1.3 meters legspan and 240.0mm carapace length

Appearance: dark purplish red, with few prominent spines. (Spine Length examimated: 3mm or more?), legspan thickness: first joint: 43mm, middle joint: 39mm, last joint: 37mm to a spike ( 35-0mm ). Legspan thinness: all (90mm+) or less than (90mm-).
