Ranking

[edit]

Ranking varies, depending on the source you used. Here the research rating was from "wangda", a non-offical source. It takes into account of both science and arts field. Wangda also offers the "overall" rating that rank Qinghua U as No. 1 as usual. However, the system depends on many indices from reputation (rather hard to quantify) to material and student resources. I personally consider this kind of mixed rating not very meaningful since it is extremely difficult to decide upon the weighting of varias indices. Instead, I choosed to supplement the research rating w/ the rankings on the under programs that gives more details on individual fields. The under programs were from the offical source, which also offers rating on the graduate programs (A+++, A++, A+, A, B, etc.) w/o ranking.

The table lists the top 16 on research plus the top-ranking schools in individual fields.

I don't have time to work on the list of the major universities on the top of the page, and it is probably unnecessary as well since the pages on major cities already include the "College and Universities" section w/ more details.

For those who are interested in the complete list of all universities in China (excluding Hongkong and Macau), please refers to the following web sites (in Chinese):

http://www.edu.cn/20040203/3098271.shtml ( a list for northern & eastern China)

http://www.edu.cn/20040203/3098281_5.shtml (a list for southern & western China)

Be aware that the situation are constantly in flux; many small schools are being merged or swallowed up by the larger ones, and some change their names or upgrade to full-time programs. No site will be able to provide the truelly up-dated list. --211.161.20.88

What is the source of these ratings? --Jiang 22:53, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Would it have been more useful to group these universities in provinces or cities where they are from? Mandel 16:31, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. The list is already growing long. We should model it after the Chinese Wikipedia version, with a table. --Dpr 07:37, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese characters

[edit]

Should we include the Chinese names side-by-side the English ones? --Dpr 02:10, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

According to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (China-related articles), add Chinese names only when it is a red link.

Do those figures and statistics cover the special administrative regions?
