Discussion at WP:FOR on formatting and content of "List of diplomatic missions" article

[edit]

There is now a discussion at WP:FOR on the formatting and content of "List of diplomatic missions" articles. As this discussion ostensibly could affect this article, editors are encouraged to provide their opinions on the WP:FOR at this link - Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_International_relations#Formatting_of_diplomatic_missions_lists - please do not discuss on this article talk page as valid points for consideration may very well not be seen by editors at large. Removal of sources, maps

[edit]

User Aquintero82 made a partial revert of my edits without any explanation. The reverted parts are the following:

  • "Other representations" changed to "Representative Offices" despite the fact that some of the missions listed are titled as "delegation" instead of "office".
  • Removal of SMOM mission to Belgium despite it being sourced - unlike some of the other listed missions
  • Removal of EU and NATO sections missions maps.
  • Removal of Niue mission to the EU despite it being one of the few sourced missions in a section tagged with "reference necessary".
  • Removal of Hong Kong mission to the EU (and related changes) despite it being one of the few sourced missions in a section tagged with "reference necessary". Instead, the editor placed a see also link to overview article for Hong Kong missions (Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office), not one that deals only with the Brussels mission itself.
  • Removal of SMOM mission to the EU despite it being one of the few sourced missions in a section tagged with "reference necessary".
  • Removal of another source in the EU missions section despite the whole section being tagged with "reference necessary"
  • Removal of see also links to Foreign relations of Belgium and List of diplomatic missions of Belgium.

If anybody has objections to those, please state it, otherwise I'll restore the removed content. It's sourced, so I find it really strange to delete it without any explanation. Japinderum (talk) 08:01, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The Chinese government is responsible for the foreign relations of Hong Kong and Macau. Therefore it is unnecessary to place the office of Hong Kong as if it were an embassy. The same goes for Niue which is governed by the government of New Zealand. Many territories have offices abroad, but that doesn't make them embassies nor diplomatic missions as they are not afforded that title. You may put these territories under 'Representative Offices'.

I will add your Foreign relations of Belgium and List of diplomatic missions of Belgium article. As for the maps. Many nations have but one diplomatic mission in Belgium which serves as the embassy to Belgium, Mission to NATIO and Mission to the European Union. By placing maps, it would show as if countries had three embassies in the country which isn't always so. Sometimes it is best to keep articles simple. The article is also referenced enough to prove which missions are based in Belgium without needing to include more references to prove what is already proved. Whether a mission is a shared Belgium/EU/NATO or not is irrelevant for the maps - they are simply a graphical representation of the respective subsection content.
So, you want Hong Kong removed, but Macau kept? That's inconsistent. Also, both Hong Kong and Macao offices are clearly distinguished from "embassies" - they are in a different subsection. Also, they should remain in the EU missions list - the sources clearly state that those are missions to the EU.
Contrary to the common misconception, Niue isn't governed by the government of NZ (but that's out of the scope of this discussion) - and as you see in the source it has it's own mission to the EU.
The section "Missions to the EU" is the one tagged as lacking references, not the article itself - and that's were you deleted sources.
For the other issues I list above, that you don't comment on, I assume you agree. Japinderum (talk) 11:15, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why not Sweden!?

[edit]

Why do you think that Sweden doesn't have an embassy and/or honorary consulate in Belgium at all!? It is located in Sweden House, rue du Luxembourg 3, in Brussels! Please, do NOT decline this question/statement!!!! --81.170.141.134 (talk) 17:32, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Errors

[edit]

Somalia doesn't have an embassy in Brussels, and I also want to say to you that Latvia is supposed to be a protecting power of Sweden in Belgium. Right!? --178.174.243.198 (talk) 21:10, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Interests Section for Sweden

[edit]

Greetings, everybody! Just want to say that Sweden really needs an interests section in the Latvian embassy in Brussels, if anyone would make sure for that. Please! ;) --62.63.238.25 (talk) 19:52, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
