Senators from MS:

Back in 1870, the first black sent to the US Senate was Hiram Revels from Mississippi. "Often", he is attributed as filling the seat previously held by Jefferson Davis. [Even by the 1870 New York Times archive article on the topic.] This is an error.

According to US Senate records, Revels filled the seat previously held by Albert G. Brown. Davis' seat was filled by Adelbert Ames (R).

Stop saying things are unknown!

[edit]

All these Senator articles say that information that our article does not have is "unknown." It is not unknown! There is absolutely no way that in the vast majority of these cases it is unknown what date state legislatures elected senators. We just don't have that information available online at the moment. We shouldn't say the information is unknown! john k (talk) 18:00, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
