Sikorsky helo names

[edit]

Did the USN and USMC ever officially use the Chickasaw and Mojave names for the HO4S/HRS and HR2S respectively? Oral histories I've read about the 1950s/1960s USN only use the nickname "Horse" for the HO4S, and I haven't read much about early USMC helo operations. I have not found any reference source that indicates the Chickasaw and Mojave names were used by the USN or USMC, so I've removed them. On a slight tangent, I now wonder whether the "Sioux" name was ever used officially for the Bell HTL, but I'll leave it alone for now. Carguychris (talk) 14:01, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Andrade's US Military Aircraft Designations and Serials doesnt give any official names for the H04S/HRS, HR2S or HTL. MilborneOne (talk) 15:21, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Swanborough and Bowers' United States Navy Aircraft since 1911 never uses the Sioux name either, and the book is generally very consistent about using aircraft names. Evidence strongly suggests that the Navy never used the "tribal" helo names until the designation system was unified. I've removed the name Sioux from the list. Martin "B2M"

[edit]

I don't think this aircraft exists. Nothing in my library refers to it, and the only things I find on Google when I search "B2M Navy" or "B2M aircraft" are references to this IJN aircraft. Subtle vandalism? Carguychris (talk) 14:51, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
