Correct list of National Historic Landmarks in Arkansas

[edit]

The official list at the National Parks Service lists 17. Currently the article shows 20, including some but not all of the 17. So more than 3 listed are not NHLs. doncram 17:49, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, look at the NHL entry for Camden Expedition sites.[1] There are several sites in the single entry in the NPS NHL web site, and in the NHL list, but there are multiple sites and each has a NRHP number. Some of the exact locations of the sites have not been published, as some are unprotected sites and there has been some looting. And as you can see there are separate articles for several battles, and until more NHL info is available for each site it seems reasonable to attach NHL info to the end of the battle article. Nonetheless there are 17 NHLs listed for Arkansas, and I think the list should show 17 to avoid confusion. So I went through a bunch of work to create a Camden Expedition Sites article, created articles for all the missing sub-sites, and linked them together. I obtained NRHP and NHL information about all of them, including site photos for each of them that were included with the NHL nomination document. It was somewhat complicated, figuring out the NRHP info for each of 9 sites, and identifying that 8 or possibly 9 of them are included in the single NHL. And then I consolidated them into a Camden Expedition Sites row in the list page, mentioning all the subsites in the description. And finally I added several NHLs to the list which were not listed at all. I believe the list is accurate now and shows 17. Whew! Cheers, doncram 02:53, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The list does have 17 entries. There are more than 17 landmarks because one list item includes several landmarks. (SEWilco 05:48, 27 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Yes, NOW the list has 17 entries, because a) the three that were missing entirely (Centennial Baptist Church, Eakins Site, and Jason Robinson Taylor House) were added, and b) multiple entries for sites that were associated with the Camden Expedition were replaced with one entry for the one National Historic Landmark designation that covers them. When a historic district is designated a NHL, such as the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, it is usual to call it one landmark, not to count each separate property as a separate landmark. It is consistent to say that the 8 or 9 sites associated with the Camden Expedition comprise one landmark. There are 17 National Historic Landmarks in Arkansas and now the list reports them accurately. doncram 15:43, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Map of NHLs Added

[edit]

I added a map of the Arkansas NHLs. This map design was taken from the design from List of NHLs in Indiana page, and if we anyone knows of a better map, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it/seeing it implemented here.

Also, there is some formatting issues. One person that has seen the page said that the formatting on their machine was messed up, so as to render the map a complete mess. If anyone knows how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.
