Purpose of this list

[edit]

Should this be a complete list of all Franco-Belgian comics characters (i.e. tens of thousands of names), or a list of the major characters only (say, about 100 very famous or influential ones)? Or should this page just be deleted since it serves no useful purpose and is largely a duplicate of the entries in List of comic books for France an Belgium?

I would propose to delete this list and create a page List of Franco-Belgian comic books, since people are usually more interested in the books, the series, than in the characters. If people want a list of characters anyway, then we have to keep it short, and only include the important ones (major characters of award winning or bestselling series). For an exhaustive list, we should use a category, not a list.

I'm going to remove all "minor" characters from this list (characters from less important or well known comics), if you disagree with any removal or any character still there please discuss it here. I'll not propose to delete this page just yet, since I would like more people to comment. Fram 11:41, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hadn't seen this comment before. As far as purpose, I think this list could be useful as the sole space to list the series that fall under this genre. but agree they should be the most notable ones. Not for anything that manages to define itself as a series and ends up on the nation-inexed list, but an explansion of the very exclusive list on Franco-Belgian comics#Notable Comics. Maybe there is a source to use for selection criteria, or this should be only for award-winners? Murghdisc. 18:00, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

English articles only

[edit]

Shouldn't we limit this to English language articles only? There are hundreds of comics, and most of them will never get an article here. To link to the French (or Dutch) Wikipedia is not very useful for most readers of the English Wikipedia, and it is not like there aren't enough English language articles to form a list of a decent length. 07:19, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

The list of translated Franco-Belgian comic series is not exhaustive ! Maybe because the number of english translated "Bande Dessinée" is too poore, too small ... If you wish, you can translate french and Dutch articles in english or create new ones. But, please, don't erase untranslated titles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.50.197.78 (talk) 16:25, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But the aim is not to be exhaustive, there are thousands of series, many of them best forgotten. The aim is to make navigation to English language articles about Franco-Belgian comics series easier, and/or to indicate which important series do not have an article yet. With the linking to the French (or Dutch) language wikipedia, the second has become a lot harder (even if an English language article is made, this will still point you to the French one unless someone corrects the link: a redlink on the other hand would automatically become a pointer to the new article). The chance that people will create an article for Ultimex is pretty slim. It appears to be only a project so far...[1] This list should only contain notable BD's, and the best indicator of notability here is having an article on the English Wikipedia. IF you think there are comics missing (and there definitely are), feel free to add such articles. Fram (talk) 09:52, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The list needs cleanup

[edit]

Hello,
As a start, English is not my mother tongue, so please don't be too harsh on me.
I am very fond of Franco-Belgian bande dessinée and the list contains series that are not so notorious in France.
e.g. Les Centaures : last album was in 1989. As far as I know, it is not influential.
Yet some influential / best-selling books are not on the list, typically the BDs that won the "Fauve d'or" prize (fr) at the Angoulême International Comics Festival.

Hello, On the French wikipedia, I identified comics rated as low interest by the Project: Comics and I removed them from the very, very long list, from A to F. There is still much work to do.
I left all comics rated "medium interest" and higher. I think it might be interesting to show on the page which comics are the most influential (Tintin, Astérix, Gaston Lagaffe...)
I didn't touch anything about NL because I cannot define how important they are.
Some comics are not even rated because they didn't catch attention. I will keep the list and update it on my Sandbox : User:Bédévore/sandbox. Regards, --Bédévore [knock knock] 16:55, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to do the cleaning as you see fit, since you seems know the topic at hand. But I think I did leave those low rated series on the France wikipedia within the list, if they are properly cited on the English Wikipedia. As that could be case of outdated importants ratings on the France wikipedia. Far as the redlinks goes just ensure its not case of diffrent spelling, since names can be diffrent between France and English Wikipedia. But feel free to also remove red links if there aren't any info to be found on those series, no matter how they are rated. Since its obvious they fail all criteria regarding inclusion. and finally feel also fre to remove those redlinks that have france wiki only pages specially if the info on the france wiki is questionable.
