Naming convention

[edit]

Chi Omega reserves the name Omega chapter to denote those alumnae who are deceased. Perhaps as a related decision, it does not use the letter Omega in naming chapters. Can anyone confirm this, regarding names such as Omega Beta?

Also, can anyone elaborate on why certain series of names were omitted?

Each series of 23 chapters are named beginning with "Psi" and ending with "Alpha" for the 23rd chapter, more or less following the order of the original series of chapters (again, omitting "Omega"). The naming series have followed this order:

  • Psi-series - Original, single letter names, 24 names used (including Omega)
  • Psi Alpha-series, 23 names used
  • Psi Beta-series, 23 names used
  • Psi Gamma-series, 23 names used
  • Psi Delta-series, 23 names used
  • Psi Epsilon-series, only seven names used
  • Psi Zeta-series, 23 names used
  • Psi Eta-series (unused)
  • Psi Theta-series, 23 names used
  • Psi Iota-series (unused)
  • Psi Kappa-series, 23 names used
  • Psi Lambda-series, 23 names used
  • Psi Mu-series (most recent chapters, 17 names used thus far)
