NPOV

[edit]

By turn, there was immense power, passion and tenderness in Lena's voice; she was also very witty and inteligent, all of which was largely unappreciated.

Is that neutral? I think not. Abie

This is almost at good article status

Someone could really nominate this...--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 14:10, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

I know I am dumb but could someone help me reference Andrew O' Hagan's novelisation. The info is----- Andrew O'Hagan Personality(2003)Harcourt Publishing ----- Thanx I am learning Paul210 22:17, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if its really needed or not as its fairly evident from what's already there. However, you were missing a slash. If you want to put it back in the following will work <ref> Andrew O'Hagan ''Personality''(2003) Harcourt <\ref> RicDod 20:03, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good Article Nomination comments

[edit]

It's nice to see a short article like this with some references, but I think it still needs some improvements before it could be considered a Good Article. The intro paragraph should have more than just one sentence. The article could benefit from at least one picture of her as an adult. The article needs a preferably free-use image of her for the infobox, but would be ok with a fair-use promotional image. An explanation of when or how she stopped performing and ended up on state benefits needs to be added. The Lena and Bonnie show and the Lena Zavaroni and Music show probably need more than one sentence each. The aforementioned additional content should be separated into sections. Even Ma, He's Making Eyes at Me is her only album, the article could use a discography section with additional information about the album and its singles. As far as references though, ten citations come from a biography on a web site tribute to her which may not meet Wikipedia's guidelines on reliable sources. I hope that someone can make the necessary improvements. I'll monitor the page to take note of any progress. - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 20:56, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Placed on hold pending improvements; cgilbert's pretty much nailed down most of the issues with the article. Also, "impresario" misspelled, and a fair-use rationale needed for the album cover regardless of whether or not a free-use image is found for the infobox. Chubbles 07:49, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to both of you for taking the time to review the article. I had a feeling that the picture would be a problem. I don't really know enough about copyright law to find a suitable one, especially as most of the pictures on the internet seem to be on fan sites with no attribution. I've also become fairly busy in real life so I probably won't be able to action the other suggestions within a reasonable time scale. Hopefully I'll be able to nominate the article again some time in the future. Thanks once again for your comments. RicDod 21:03, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll leave it on hold for a few more days just in case. Chubbles 21:23, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hardly good article. This is very scant on information. There's barely a mention of her three TV series and the discography is missing loads of singles - and the ones that are there are in the wrong order (Personality came after Ma). Needs fleshing out a lot and some pictures as well. Also, why does it say she was active till 82 when there's an album release for '85? --Tuzapicabit (talk) 08:20, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Leukotomy

[edit]

I know the press at the time of her death (in particular the BBC) said her operation was "understood to have been a leucotomy" [1], although the hospital did not discuss it. Later on, after the inquest, the BBC no longer referred to it as a leucotomy.[2]. The hospital said:

A special surgical procedure is available as a last-resort treatment for the most severe cases of chronic clinical depression. It's not a treatment for anorexia and it's not a lobotomy. It's available only at a small number of specialist neurosurgical centres in the United Kingdom, of which the University Hospital of Wales is one. This is not an experimental or pioneering procedure - the NHS treatment has been performed successfully at the hospital for over six years.[emphasis added][3]

Leucotomy is the same procedure as lobotomy. Therefore, this statement should be removed. ∴ Therefore | talk 01:03, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don’t know if a SINGLE surgical ‘procedure’ that cures, or even lessens, depression…other than a lobotomy. By choosing not to be honest about it, those in ‘the know’ about her surgery are helping to keep the stigma about mental health alive and well. What a shame. What a tragic story. It almost seemed destined to end the way it did… 2601:405:4800:5590:98B:FD19:8CFF:BA7E (talk) 08:35, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

After seeing the edit warring yesterday (which is continuing), reading Boing! said Zebedee and JamesBWatson's dialogue on the matter and reading through WP:EL, I have decided to remove the three "memorial" fansites from the external links. This decision is based in part on WP:ELNO number 11, WP:ELOFFICIAL and WP:ELBURDEN. I do not believe that any of the linked sites constitute official sites or sites by authoritative sources, and all three are self-described fan sites, so they should removed (unless there is consensus to include them, which at the moment seems tenuous at best.)

If an editor who is not related to one of the three sites disagrees and would like to re-add the links, please go ahead, but leave a note here too :) I'll keep the page on my watchlist to ensure the site owners don't try to slip them back in. I am new to Wikipedia so if adding a separate page is not the way to go please let me know.

Stage and TV career

[edit]

I have made the follow change to this line.

Before: Between 1979 and 1982, Lena had her own TV series on the BBC, Lena Zavaroni and Music,
After: Between 1979 and 1982, Lena had her own TV series on the BBC, Lena Zavaroni and Music,

Updates and removals

[edit]

I have updated the Discography: Album section of this page with track listings If there is a better way of displaying this Information please amend as I am still learning.

I remove various Ref Tags as they were links to fan made websites.

I removed the Biopic Section as no such biographical movie has been made and the Ref Tag was to a redundant link.

I remove the Ref Tag for Lena Zavaroni that linked to a book about a fictional character

If any of the change I have made are dimmed invalid then please amend information, Thanks Robcamstone (talk) 08:15, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The navigational box at the top of the article linking to the various tv shows should be replaced by a template and placed at the bottom of the article per WP:NAVBOX. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 10:55, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Hold Tight, It's Lena

[edit]

Non-notable album release that would be better served by a merge to the musician's page TKK bark ! 19:03, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Keep

[edit]
  • The editor ‎Tikuko makes the claim that Lena Zavaroni's album Hold Tight, It's Lena would be best merged with the article Lena Zavaroni. In fact this would impact on Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums and on the continuity of Lena Zavaroni's discography section. If this album is to be merged, then all her other album would also need to be merged to maintain continuity of the layout.
  • This is the second of Lena Zavaroni's albums that have been tag by Tikuko today. I would suggest that any editor before deciding to support merger checks out his talk page where you can see what look like failures to me. He is quick to comment about others failure to assume good faith. Yet his responses on his own talk page show that he has a history of failure to assume good faith.

Weight?

[edit]

Is it really relevant to say what her weight dropped to (at one point) when she had anorexia? I understand that it's to show how severe her anorexia was, but that's very clear from the rest of the article, so mentioning her weight in this context feels unnecessary and kind of insensitive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Waitalie Nat (talkcontribs) 23:32, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at Ma! (He's Making Eyes At Me) and left comments regarding notability on the talk page. We are not supposed to create pseudo-dictionary style off-shoot articles as fans, or a memorial.
The listing of several Albums, under-sourced or even unsourced such as Lena Zavaroni in South Africa, sourced with only "Ref. Printed Material: Back Cover of LP main source of information", Presenting Lena Zavaroni sourced with only the back cover of the LP, Discogs, and IMDb, Songs Are Such Good Things, sourced with the back cover of the LP and Discogs, as well as songs such as Tweedlee Dee where the subject is not even mentioned, means merging with redirects should be considered. Lena Zavaroni And Her Music does have a source,"Perfect Sound Forever", which reviews the subjects and albums. That author mentions "little girl with a big voice" and I have heard that before. However, that is a source better for the parent article than one album.
Discogs is considered "User generated and unreliable as a source. IMDb is considered unreliable as a source but acceptable in the "External links". The decision to create a new article (sometimes just turning red links blue), over adding to an existing one, is determined by notability from significant coverage in multiple reliable and independent sources. The "back cover" of an LP has no consideration as a source to advance notability. -- Otr500 (talk) 15:14, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
