Extrapolating too much from sources

[edit]

Addressing primary author of article: @Korean National History. I wanted to give some feedback on the writing if it's ok; I'm a little concerned that this article may be repeating issues I've been seeing on the Korean nationalism article (see Talk:Korean nationalism).

I'm seeing multiple sentences where:

  • Opinion pieces are being used to present subjective statements as objective fact
  • Broad generalizations are being made from case examples.

For example, the first sentence of the body. Refs 4 and 5 are both functionally opinion pieces, and the quote given as rationale in ref 5 doesn't even really seem to directly support the claim being made. That's more just the individual opinion of one commentator.

In other sentences, subjective analyses are being presented as objective fact in Wikipedia's voice. For example, "This was naturally formed by war crimes"; "naturally" falls under MOS:OFCOURSE.

I can provide more examples if you need, but please try to edit the article with my feedback in mind. And if you write on this topic area in future, please be extra careful. These topics are contentious and getting it wrong can cause harm. That said, I don't think this article is actively harmful like the Korean nationalism article is. I think most of the writing in it even leans true, but it's grounded on shaky evidence and writing that needs more nuance. seefooddiet (talk) 00:49, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
