Disambiguation

[edit]

@Treasurehunter007: @Mr suntan: per WP:TWODABS "If there are only two topics to which a given title might refer, and one is the primary topic, then a disambiguation page is not needed—it is sufficient to use a hatnote on the primary topic article, pointing to the other article." Confusing Hijack of Title

[edit]

This page started, at its earliest revision, about the adventure sports legend, "Johnny Strange". Over time, edits were accidentally applied to this page that were not for this individual but for another "Johnny Strange" who is some sort of illusionist. Over time, it appears that someone decided the subject of the original article should be relegated to a different page (now "John Robert Strange"), and that this page should belong to the illusionist.

There are two ethical options for this:

1) Easiest - rename this as "Johnny Strange (Illusionist)", rename "John Robert Strange" as "Johnny Strange".

PROS: Easy. Simple.

CONS: Muddled edit history.

2.) Create new page "Johnny Strange (Illusionist)". Copy all the current content from this page to that one. Copy all of the content currently on "John Robert Strange" to this page. Delete "John Robert Strange"

PROS: Preserves the full edit history for original "adventure sports" Johnny Strange in the same page where his bio page lives in perpetuity

CONS: Complicated and annoying

I suggest option 1 as the "least sucky solution".

This page got muddled up around 22 March 2015 and the other Johnny Strange ended up as the page name. It's not a cut and paste move as the article Johnny Strange (adventurer) did not start until 18 August 2015 - so (I checked at WP:REPAIR) we cannot split the history. I've left a note on Talk:Johnny Strange (adventurer) that there was an earlier article and some history here. Neither article are that big to claim primary name outright. Personally I would either leave it all alone, OR move this to Johnny Strange (illusionist) (needs to be small "i" in illusionist) and have this page as a redirect to John Strange Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:48, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
