James or John Young?

[edit]

It appears to me that Gemmill may have made a mistake in the Parliamentary Companion.

James Young, the son of James Young and Anne Ferguson was born in 1836, married Matilda Doran and died in 1868. He did not serve in Parliament.

This article refers to John Young, MLA, born 1841, died 1907, married Addie Hubbard. He served in the NB legislature from 1886 - 1890, was re-elected in an 1899 by-election to replace Peter Veinot, and again from 1903 until his death in 1907.

I contacted the New Brunswick Legislative library to confirm my conclusions. They provided me with exerpts from two documents, both of which I have uploaded to his WikiTree profile. The Graves papers, and Elections in New Brunswick 1784-1984.

I can flesh out the stub with a little more info on his political career, but I don't want to muck around until the name is resolved. LGiffin (talk) 23:51, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
