"Capturing Israel's Galilee region"

[edit]

EnfantDeLaVille added "In 2023, Aqil was reported to be the commander of the Redwan Force, a special unit tasked with capturing Israel's Galilee region." The sentence has two sources at the end:

  • this article doesn't appear to mention Aqil at all, which means its usage here appears to be WP:SYNTH. It does say "« La conquête de la Galilée » est la raison d’être de cette unité depuis sa création par Imad Moughnieh, après la guerre de 2006." The words "the conquest of Galilee" are put in quotes, meaning the source is not using it in its own voice, which means we should not use it in our voice either. Further, its not clear at all that this is referring to "capturing" Galilee, which is certainly an WP:EXCEPTIONAL claim. The source would need to say a bit more about it.
  • Not sure if this source is reliable. According to the About us, it is run by an IDF colonel, which makes it not WP:INDEPENDENT.

It's been removed now, but should this be added again, I agree that it needs better sourcing. Cortador (talk) 06:57, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Vice regent: It now reads: "On 22 September, Israel's President Herzog was interviewed by Sky News, during the interview he said that the assassination was done to eliminate Radwan plans to invade the Galilee.[33]" → "33" = https://www.ynetnews.com/category/3089#b1fuhvttr → That 33-source has already disappeared into the "Orcus". That also needs better sourcing.
In that already infamous interview Herzog also denied any Israeli involvement in that application of a model of assassination on an industrial scale: 2024 Lebanon pager explosions (Why has Israel’s president denied the pager attack on Hezbollah?, 22 September 2024 + Israel had ‘no connection’ with exploding pager attack, president claims, 22 September 2024). If its an Israeli POV, then it should not be stated in wikivoice.VR (Please ping on reply) 20:59, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's definitely not the only source describing Redwan Force destiny as conquering Galilee... EnfantDeLaVille (talk) 21:18, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ibrahim Aqil (Hezbollah)Ibrahim Aqil – The Hezbollah figure is the obvious WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the name. This is certainly true in terms of news coverage after his assassination today, but also in terms of long-term significance. The other person with this name, a Jordanian taekwondo athlete, is only a minor figure in his sport who appeared at one Olympics. The Hezbollah commander was allegedly a key figure in the 1983 US embassy bombing in Beirut and 1983 Beirut barracks bombings with a $7 million bounty on him by the U.S. State Department. — Goszei (talk) 04:10, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have just started an RM at the article for the taekwondo athlete with evidence that his COMMONNAME is actually "Ibrahim Kamal". — Goszei (talk) 04:19, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the Image

[edit]

Should we change the images in many Hezbollah's commanders' articles, including Aqil, to be the more recent ones that are published by Hezbollah upon those members' killing?

Such changes would insure more clear and recent images of the individuals. But I'm putting this on the talk page to see wether some people would see those images as "glorifying" of some sort or have any other issues. RamiPat (talk) 19:45, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are those images already uploaded? Can you point to them, so we can decide? VR (Please ping on reply) 23:11, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
