Plot summary - copyrighted content?

[edit]

The plot summary on this page is lifted in its entirety almost verbatim from the American Film Institute database. Is that not a problem? (*yes, relative newbie here.) Shill66 03:27, 4 September 2007 (UTC)shill66[reply]

Agreed, even after some marginal rewritings it's still too similar to its original source. Anyone got the time to rewrite the synopsis from scratch?--Robert Kerber (talk) 17:58, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Review by ...?

[edit]

Who said the following? Kim Newman? Then please change the generalising term "It has been acclaimed" to "Critic Kim Newman stated" or something similar.

It has since been acclaimed for its nuanced performances and haunting atmosphere, particularly the nightmare journey undertaken by Betsy and Jessica in the cane field. It is not a "zombie movie" in the modern sense of the term, but it is arguably more accurate and sensitive in depicting Caribbean culture and Voodoo rites and beliefs than many such horror films.

Info missing serious source

[edit]

The following info has no source given (plus the link is defunct), and as I could find this info nowhere else I leave it here until a source is found:

The original screenplay put more emphasis on Jessica's past as a manipulative hussy. It even had a happy ending with Paul and Betsy back in Ottawa, married and enjoying the hustle and bustle of a modern city. This scene was not included in the final film.

Cast-igation

[edit]

Per WP:CASTLIST, "Pertinent casting information might also be included in this section", but it's six of one, half a dozen of the other which section it goes in, just as long as it doesn't get duplicated. Clarityfiend (talk) 15:27, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Citation and Expansion

[edit]

This article is incomplete and is missing important citations for its information. This article is also poorly written and needs to be rewritten entirely in order to meet Wikipiedia's guidelines and standards of a well developed and properly sourced article. Sections such as information on the film's production and reception are, not only poorly written, but underdeveloped as well. They should be rewritten and expanded with proper citations given for its information. This article is also missing important information on the film's theatrical/home media release which needs to be added to the article with proper citations given for its information. It's really sad to see this article for a film that is considered by many to be Lewton's best film and a horror masterpiece in such a state of underdevelopment and poorly written material. Hopefully this article gets the attention it so deserves and possibly become GA or FA status.--Paleface Jack (talk) 15:20, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
