Potential sources

[edit]

Quick look at potential sources, based on my quick search:

  • Passing mention in "3D Data Visualization Gets Communitive | Computer Graphics World". Computer Grapics World. Retrieved 2023-10-22. The National Science Foundation report, Visualization in Scientific Computing, is generally credited with launching the field of scientific visualization in 1987. And 27 years ago, in 1994, Larry Rosenblum edited a special issue of IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications on Research Issues in Scientific Visualization, focusing on then-recent advances and emerging topics in visualization.
  • Included as a bullet point on this historical timeline: Carlson, Wayne E. (2017-06-20). "CG Historical Timeline". Computer Graphics and Computer Animation: A Retrospective Overview. 1981: IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications published by IEEE Computer Society and NCGA
  • Passing mention in press release (and many similar examples available).
  • Passing mention in a historical overview of the field in a textbook: Earnshaw, Rae (2019), Earnshaw, Rae; Dill, John; Kasik, David (eds.), "Visualization", Data Science and Visual Computing, Advanced Information and Knowledge Processing, Cham: Springer International Publishing, pp. 39–57, doi:10.1007/978-3-030-24367-8_4, ISBN 978-3-030-24367-8, retrieved 2023-10-22, One of the first groups on computer graphics and interactive techniques was founded in 1969 in the USA by ACM and hosts an annual international conference (with the first one in 1974). .... In the past, applications have not received much attention because the conference is driven primarily by academic researchers in universities and research laboratories. Application papers are published in IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications.
  • Likely non-independent mention in this 1997 mention in Computer Graphics (newsletter): Machover, Carl (February 1997). "Computer graphics pioneers". ACM SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics. 31 (1): 7–8. doi:10.1145/248307.252654. ISSN 0097-8930. At the August 1996 board meeting of the editorial board of IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications (CG&A), I suggested that CG&A do something in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of ACM SIGGRAPH conferences.
  • This useful conference paper, a visualization paper that demonstrates their method "through a working example based on an author cocitation analysis of the prestigious IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications (CG&A)." Some of the discussion in the paper could be used to support discussion of the structure of the field, major publishers in the field, etc. A little unusual, but this looks like WP:SIGCOV to me. Paper: Chen, Chaomei; Paul, Ray J.; O'Keefe, Bob (2001). "Fitting the jigsaw of citation: Information visualization in domain analysis". Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology. 52 (4): 315–330. doi:10.1002/1532-2890(2000)9999:9999<::AID-ASI1074>3.0.CO;2-2. ISSN 1532-2882.
