I am the author of the entry for Horticultural Building Systems and a professor whose research focuses on vegetated architecture. The term "Horticultural Building Systems" contributes to dialogue and emerging research, yet describes a condition dating back to the advent of horticultural science.

Proposed Deletion

[edit]

I have concerns about WP:Notability and proposed this article should be deleted. The article describes "Horticultural building system" as an umbrella term encompassing a number of other specific examples (e.g. green wall, vertical garden, green roof) which each have an article. However, I could not find any independent sources using the term this way. Most of the references in the article are about specific integrations of plants and buildings, and as far as I can tell do not use the phrase "Horticultural Building Systems" to describe them. The reference that does use the term seems by the person who coined it, who also won a grant related to it, and who (based on the name User talk:Rlhindle) might also be the same person who created this stub. I note from the history that these issues were raised previously by other editors but never really addressed. The Template:No_footnotes and Template:COI were removed without any other edits, or any discussion or even an edit comment by an IP user at 17:13, 9 November 2011.

I see the PROD was deleted, I must have missed something, and would welcome verifiable independent sources showing this is WP:Notable. Here are some checks I did: Google yields only 1,130 hits. The top results are this page, and the blog mentioned above. There seems to be/have been a company Horticultural Building System Design Limited, in the UK, but that is not the subject of this article. Diving deeper, there are some hits that are copies of this article, and few Pinterest boards that seem to be copies of the blog. A few hits point to a company in the UK but that is not the topic of this article. I found no results for this term on Google Scholar or Google News Archive. Google Books only found it in two titles, one appears to be a passing mention in a self-published book, the other lists the term in a glossary, defining it using the same text as this article, but without additional information. It appears the only Wikipedia pages that link here are redirects and a few user pages. For now, I added Template:Notability and hope others have better luck. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adabhael (talkcontribs) 23:52, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Adabhael, Building-integrated agriculture may be a good merge target, since this article is just a definition for a scarcely used term. Reywas92Talk 01:17, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
