Will have to relook (reborrow from library) at Clausen, but I don’t think he put Layton at the top of the list for culpability; Kimmel & Short both got 10 & FDR down at 5! But it was more organizational faults: two intelligence organizations AND two commanders in one place (cf Desert Storm victory = one commander he said).

Was Clausen authorised by Congress; from Clausen’s meeting with Stinson it appears that Stinson had the Army Board report and decided to appoint a Special Investigator (as generally authorised by some act of Congress) rather than another Board. So did Clausen’s appointment have to go to the President or Congress for approval?

Ferguson is Homer S. Ferguson , Senator from Michigan Gearhart is Bertrand W. Gearhart, Congressman from California ?? But Murphy is ????? Does Clausen say where he is from?

PS: is Clausen still alive (at c102?). Hugo999 14:28, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Died 1992

[edit]

Lee says that Clausen died 4 December 1992 (ie not 1993), Lee page 16. He interviewed Clausen in August 1992, so I suppose he is right! Marching Orders: The Untold Story of World War II by Bruce Lee (1995, Crown, New York) ISBN 0 517 57576 0 Hugo999 (talk) 03:03, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
