Confusing Mess

[edit]

This article is badly written and confusing. The lede defines the FUCA as existing before cells, but some paragraphs imply that the FUCA was a progenote and then defines progenotes as being cells. The article also repeatedly talks of "open" and "semi-open" systems and never explains what that means. I consider myself to have a decent lay understanding of origin of life theories and I can't make any sense out of this article. I still have no clue what a progenote, a FUCA, or an open system is, whether any of them had lipid cellular membranes, and what order they are supposed to have evolved in. I am also confused whether the FUCA is supposed to have been the first lifeform or to have evolved from something else, despite its name. 198.98.201.91 (talk) 23:57, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The FUCA is also called "compartmentalized" which is the opposite of non-cellular. Make up your mind, please! 198.98.201.91 (talk) 00:00, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
