NOTE: I am proposing this edit for FleishmanHillard on behalf of EA Sports, publisher of FIFA 21. I am a paid editor and aware of COI guidelines.

Ultimate Team

The latter part of the sixth sentence of the Ultimate Team section (“FIFA points were already banned…”) suggests that FIFA points “could be banned worldwide soon.” However, that statement is speculative as no worldwide ban has occurred, nor does the current source back up any worldwide ban being planned or having occurred (the article mentions a government investigation and petition in the UK, but nothing that would suggest a worldwide ban).

There also has been no consistent approach established regarding a global ban or legal definition of loot boxes.[1] Given the speculative nature of the latter half of the sentence, we propose removing “and could be banned worldwide soon” from the article. If a more accurate replacement for that part of the sentence is needed, we propose “…and is being debated in the UK and United States,” as is reflected in the source currently used on the page.[2] Thanks for your time and consideration. Agreed that that clause seems speculative and verges on original research. I'll remove and replace. --FeldBum (talk) 14:50, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ping Jon Gray Done and marked complete. --FeldBum (talk)

The gambling laws vary by country, and in the United States, by state as well. In the US, few if any laws specifically address gambling based on virtual items… There is no consistent approach internationally either, although many EU member states have released position papers within the last few years.

This was immediately followed by the start of a petition in the UK which demands strict action against loot box systems and inclusion of it in the Gambling Act… Another potential financial hit for EA is that the crackdown on FUT Packs is heading to the mobile platforms as well. A complaint filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California alleges Apple is complicit in promoting gambling and addictive behaviour by allowing developers to market apps and games with loot boxes on the App Store.
Ping FeldBum Thanks very much – appreciate you taking a look at that sentence. One other thing I wanted to call out in the previous sentence is the statement that EA agreed to stop selling FIFA in Belgium in January 2019. However, per the source used in the article,[1] it’s actually FIFA Points that EA agreed to stop selling in Belgium, not the game itself. Could you please add the word “Points” after “FIFA” in that sentence to clarify? Thanks again. Jon Gray (talk) 01:40, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Jon Gray, made that change. All done now. --FeldBum (talk) 00:44, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
