Playoffs/04-05 season info

I made a section for the current season. In a week, we'll need to fold it back into the history page, but currently there is enough information, and quickly changing, to warrant a separate section. DDerby 18:14, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Is it necessary for there to be a everchanging stat of the Pistons record providing unecessary edits every couple of days? The sentence I'm referring to is in the 2004-05 season section. I'm guilty of some of the stat edits (sellout games, for example)! I like them. I think they really differentiate the difference between Wikipedia and paper encyclopedias. Is this a technical problem? Besides, it seems that vandalism and other edits seem to outweigh the quantity of stat updates, anyway...

John Mason, Announcer

Perhaps there should be a section on the Detroit Pistons announcer John Mason? Rajiv Varma 03:19, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm not from Detroit and I've never seen a game at the Palace, so I can't really say anything for certain. However I think that some non-Pistons fans might see him as extremly annoying and that he shouldn't be on here, but Pistons fans who actually go to the games would probably say that he adds so much to the game and that he deserves to be on here. Also, it might seem a bit silly having John Mason on this article while the other team's PA announcers go annonymous on wikipedia, so it might be better not to have him on here, even though I understand why he should be listed. Mason is part of the reason the Palace experience is so unique. Being one of the premier announcers in this league he deserves to be on here. The Palace of Auburn Hills was ranked #2 in a list of the best professional sports expierences (ESPN) and Mason is one of the reasons they are rated so high.

I like how and where Mason was put in, but all of the extra radio stuff just does not belong. That info belongs on his page, not on the Pistons page. We don't go on and on about Blaha's Spartan football work, so why Mason's radio work? I've deleted it.

Depth Chart

isn't juan dixon a point guard? if so he should be listed behind rodney stuckey at point guard, not at shooting guard.

Technically, he is a point guard. But more depth is needed behind Rip on the SG position and dixon can play both. Good thing that Hayes is doing well these days. - mixmeista

Please Be Forgotten

I'd love to see the Not To Be Forgotten section greatly pared back. I've removed a few names. Why would people like Arroyo be added to this list? People like Grant Hill or Dennis Rodman should be on this list: years of All-Star calibur play. Arroyo was here for parts of 2 years: he never played a full season with the Pistons, and he *might* have been a starter for a game or two. If we put players like Arroyo, who *couldn't* we put there?

I am also seeing Mehmet Okur's name been removed consistently. Any player whose been on a championship team should be on this list, not to mention Memo was a started on this team prior to Sheed's arrival.

No. There are 12-14 players or more that play on a championship team. Memo was a bench player in the playoffs, and he left immediately thereafter. He does not belong. That's why he gets removed.

He also started for more than half the season! I rather have a consistent contributor in a championship team in that list than someone who was putting 20+ points but was never able to get us to the playoffs.

A user put an interesting name on the list: Don Meineke. A rookie of the year, but he only played for 3 years with the Pistons. Thoughts?

I think we should be able to let a rookie of the year stay there. How many rookie of the year players do we have in our club at the end of the day.

Time for Pruning

This article is *very* detail heavy for the 2000's, and especially for the last couple of seasons. I know that recent history probably needs more weight than past history, but I think it's time to start pruning down this article, and while we're at it, including more references. Well, it's been 6 weeks, and no one has commented. Therefore, the pruning has begun. I've rolled the 2005-2006 paragraph into the 2000's decade section. I've left the 2006 offseason paragraph alone for now: in a few weeks, after the season gets into full swing, I will roll it back into the main paragraph, too, and probably delete most of it at the same time.

I do not want to do this in a vacuum. If you have thoughts, put them here. Otherwise, I will happily continue on my merry way...  :)

Changes to Broadcasters

I do not like the move to a list. It strips out some information that might be valuable: how long people have been doing it, etc. However, given the fact that there's *bunches* of people in this section, *something* needs to be done. George Blaha, who became the team's play-by-play announcer during the 1976-77 NBA season, remains their main play-by-play voice on both local television and radio. When Blaha works on television, Mark Champion, once the voice of the Detroit Lions, handles play-by-play duties on the radio. Former Pistons forward Rick Mahorn is the radio color analyst. In situations when Mahorn is not available, former Piston John Long serves in his place. Former Pistons center Bill Laimbeer is the television color analyst. John Mason, a popular Detroit radio personality, has been the Palace's public address announcer since 2001. He is most known for coining the phrase "Deee-troit Basket-ball!" Fred McCloud and Greg Kelser are the announcers on games shown on Fox Sports with Greg Kelser doing color comentary.

Regular Season Titles

In seeking to compare the terminology to how they're saying it on the hockey pages, I am wondering whether the Pistons are styled as the "Eastern Conference Regular Season Champions" last season and this season. 76.10.24.245 04:41, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

hey someone deleted this whole article, so i set it back to what it used to be. look at the page history at the 22nd of april. he deleted the whole article and left one sentence saying if you liked the Pistons, then you are stupid etc... anyways i hope its all good now, someone want to double check this for me to make sure everything is ok? - lionhead I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!
