How about WWI

[edit]

The article should say what happened in WWI - reliance by a declaration of war by the Governor-General? (as in New Zealand) Hugo999 (talk) 09:58, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Canada did not have the power to declare war independently of the United Kingdom in 1914, As a British Dominion, Canada was automatically at war with Germany when Britain declared war. It was not until the Statute of Westminster was passed in 1931 that Canada had the power to interdependently declare war. Mediatech492 (talk) 11:36, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Did Canada declare war on Japan on Dec 7th or Dec 8th?

[edit]

The article seems to state that either Canada decided to declare war on the evening of Dec 6th, and did so the next day, or that they decided to declare war on the evening of the 7th, and did so the next day. The former seems impossible for obvious reasons (barring conspiracy), but the latter would contradict the assertion that the UK and US declared war "the next day," as all three would have declared war on Dec 8th. Else, the writer is arguing that the state of war existed since Dec 7th for Canada but was formalized the next day, which would also be the case for the United States, as well (see "Day Which Will Live in Infamy" speech). 68.60.202.174 (talk) 17:31, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
