Someone has questioned the importance of the subject of this biographical article. He was a British MP from 1804 to 1832, among many other singificant and notable activities. am currently working on an extended version of thelist of his writings - see British Library Catalogue.

Prove it

we just have to take your word for it. Timmy12 01:55, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not need to prove it. I have provided a reliable source - ODNB. If there are errors in the ODNB article, then I suggest you contact the Oxford University Press, who are always grateful for any comments, corrections or additional sources. Vernon White 07:36, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

"A Member of the Davies-Gilbert Family"

[edit]

Davies Gilbert was not "A Member of the Davies-Gilbert Family", he was born Davies Giddy and took his wife's name to perpetuate it, in 1817. This enabled the couple to inherit her heirless uncle's extensive property in Sussex. It would be good to know more about Mrs. Gilbert, the agricultural improvement project near Beachy Head and John Davies Gilbert, whom someone claims founded the town of Eastbourne in Sussex.

Was John Davies Gilbert a son of Davies Gilbert? Was he the same as the J.D. Gilbert of Trelissick, Cornwall, ( d. 16 April 1854 ) who married a Hon. Anne Dorothea Carew on 7 Oct. 1851? (Source: Peerage.com). For what period did the Gilberts own Trelissick (Now a National Trust property)?

If Davies Gilbert founded the family that became "The Davies-Gilbert Family" then it would be best to link from his WP article to theirs with a reference to his children and their inheritance.

However, I am much more interested in Davies Gilbert's role as High SherifF of Cornwall, in Parliament and in the Royal Society. ---Vernon White
