OK, I added a definition of what the regatta actually is, but the volume of text is still very skewed toward Dad Vail, the man. Maybe he deserves his own entry?BillFlis 00:46, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, the article as it stands right now is more focoused on Vail then it is on the Regatta, which basicaly is a passing mention. I would tak the third para on down, and move it to a seperate article so it can get a better work out their. Then expand the current arrticle so that it is more about the regatte then the man, poss put an expansion tag on it and request up, see if cant get more ppl to look at the article. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 04:45, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Well, I edited it, don't know what you mean by "expansion tag and request up" (newbie here!)BillFlis 11:33, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well being that your fairly new here i'll take care of it, but basicaly their is a section that you can place pages in to request addational help to expand the article, it's like an in site advert. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 04:56, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Results

[edit]

Why does the result chart only go back to '82 and why isn't it fully filled in? Were there no other races those years? I doubt that. Shouldn't the history of winners be in the dad vails program? I have one from 2006 I'll check later. If someone else knows the results Fill it in.Ocoufnoc 17:28, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Talk?

[edit]

Well, you didn't even sign your own contribution! And where did you get the idea that anybody was discussing the subject and not the article? I take issue with that. And what's the idea of putting your contribution at the very top of the article, like it's the most important thing? Here, I'm going to arrange things chronologically as they were added here.--BillFlis (talk) 11:24, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category question

[edit]

Category question: Should the category say "Recurring events established in 1934" or another year? An expert editor on this subject should decide and add the category. The article says the regatta turned 70 in 2008, a confusing statement for the starting date. --DThomsen8 (talk) 15:21, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Using Premier League as a guide, shouldn't this page retain its original title of Dad Vail Regatta while also clearly mentioning the event is currently sponsored?

To be clear, I'm not at all against mentioning the sponsor, but unless they promised to sponsor this forever, shouldn't the event keep its unsponsored title as far as Wiki pages go?

Someone from Aberdeen was likely told by their public relations manager to change the name from "Dad Vail" to "Aberdeen Dad Vail regatta". The title is confusing and should simply be changed to "Dad Vail Regatta". Just because the company paid the organizers of the event to use their corporate name, doesn't mean everyday people need to call it that too.

It's the same thing as giving a name to a professional sporting arena, do you call the "T.D Banknorth garden" or simply the "Boston Garden?" Obviously the latter in this case is the most recognizable name and should be one the that is used.

By the same reasoning, the title of this page should simply be called "Dad Vail regatta".

I would immediately question the neutrality of anyone else who advocates not changing the name of this page to "Dad Vail Regatta". If someone does oppose this change, they had better state what affiliation they have with Aberdeen in the first place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.84.62.28 (talk) 17:31, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
