[edit]

There are still grammatical errors. Some buildings, claimed by Tropenmuseum to be located in Jakarta, are still mysteriously unknown. Most buildings has their (official) name in local language (Indonesian), so the article may feels like something that is translated from Indonesian wikipedia without any re-edit, but this is good to avoid confusion of multiple names.

Sources are still written in an incorrect formating, will correct this slowly. Some sources changed address during edit, so there is a possibility of dead links in the Ref. Government sources such as the [Encyclopedia Jakarta], even though they are basically "official" and provide insight, they are not credible. Adding two or more sources for each building are very much appreciated, preferably from non-Indonesian source (e.g. English or Dutch), as Indonesian source are often poor in quality.

Decided to start the article in English wikipedia so more people will see and participate in the edit. If the article is well-edited enough, I (or somebody) will place this in Indonesia wikipedia.--Rochelimit (talk) 14:23, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Bioscoop Menteng" has geo-coordinates in the "newest image" column which is probably wrong. In "Ika Dai Gaku College Dormitory", "daigaku" (=University in Japanese) might need to be spelled as one word, but I am just guessing here. bamse (talk) 23:26, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Great article indeed. Respect the effort Rochelimit. Nice work. Rgds, --KARL RAN (talk) 18:14, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bataviaasch Nieuwsblad

[edit]
Office of Bataviaasch Nieuwsblad

I removed this because I don't think this building was located in Jakarta. Possibly in Bandung?--Rochelimit (talk) 07:09, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you think Bandung? Dutch Wiki says: "De thuisbasis bleef Batavia: pogingen om ook in Bandoeng een vestiging op te zetten, hadden geen succes." Unfortunately its not referenced.
I just created this article: Bataviaasch Nieuwsblad, but didnt find any ref about office buildings location. Rgds, --KARL RAN (talk) 12:12, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah Bandung is a wild guess. I thought the building typology and the surrounding looks rather unfamiliar, but year perhaps it is located in Jakarta. Problem is, I need to know the surrounding area... I can't even find another picture of this building!--Rochelimit (talk) 10:15, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Found it: Kali Besar 23-24, Batavia. http://www.indische-pers.nl/tentoonstelling/03.html Address is mentioned on the actual newspaper. --KARL RAN (talk) 13:46, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I don't think that's the address of this particular building. I think Kali Besar 24 is the building G.J. Kolff & Co, located somewhere in a hoek (6°08′03″S 106°48′43″E, You can check Google Earth, it shows 3d facade of some prominent early 20th century buildings but none has this kind of facade or tower). Probably Batavia Nieuws had a branch office somewhere in G.J. Kolff & Co's building, not sure about this either. The newspaper was in 1891, while the photo (Art Deco style) was probably 1910s-1930s, so I don't think that's the location, I dunno.
This building is very unique in its facade, shape of tower, etc, it should be easy to locate this building, but for some reason, it's not. I will only be convinced if I can found a second picture of this building where I can analyze the surrounding area.
I should try looking at one of those airplane views of these area, but I have a strong feeling I won't find this building in Kali Besar area.
We could try investiging the photographer Van der Felde? or Tropenmuseum? Thanks for the help in this "small quest" though--Rochelimit (talk) 15:46, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ooo you know what, I found a poster of the building [[1]], and there's the G.J. Kolff office as well. Probably the poster shows the old office (G.J. Kolff, almost sure it is the Kali Besar 24?) and the new one (this building, unknown address in Batavia).--Rochelimit (talk) 15:48, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Found, the building has been demolished. It was in Jalan Pintu Air.--Rochelimit (talk) 05:39, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A.D.E.K. building

[edit]

this (Wikipedia Commons link) appears to be the head office of A.D.E.K. in the Meester Cornelis district. I believe the photo used is of the A.D.E.K. office in Bandung. OrganicEarth (talk) 20:43, 20 August 2015 (UTC) (Posted to wrong page originally..)[reply]

I swapped images but unfortunately I posted my explanation to the wrong page. The A.D.E.K. building pictured in this article is the one in Bandung. The one in Jakarta is in the former Meester Cornelis district and is pictured above. OrganicEarth (talk) 05:08, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... according to the sources available on the web it seems they are mislabelled (reversed) on Commons. Are we sure which one is which? Are there any original (older) sources we can rely on so we are sure we get it correct? OrganicEarth (talk) 05:21, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is a mislabel. Documentation in KITLV, Tropenmuseum, or others often contains error. I already reverted your edit back actually.--Rochelimit (talk) 06:34, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
How do you know it is mislabeled and that the other source isn't the one in error? OrganicEarth (talk) 10:57, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The building you thought an error was the front building of an internment camp located in Meester Cornelis. I know because I own Voskuil's book: Batavia/Djakarta/Jakarta beeld van een metamorfose, compilation of buildings in Jakarta history. You can check out this [link]. PLUS I happen to live very close to this area. The humble main building with the pointy tower has been demolished and a new building Kantor Inkoppol Pusat (Induk Koperasi Kepolisian Republik Indonesia, a kind of cooperation for the police) was built on top of that building. The street in front of that particular building you though was an error is now Jalan Bonang, Jatinegara, Jakarta. No need to raise a discussion over this, the building has been identified positively.
The pic above is probably another smaller building in the same ADEK complex of Meester Cornelis. I have no idea which building is this. So, in conclusion, I think the error is the word "Bandung" in the picture you thought was an error.--Rochelimit (talk) 18:22, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I know there was an ADEK building there, the question is which one? We seem to have two sources in conflict. If the building or information on the ADEK building in .. I forget the other city now.. was available that would help resolve the issue clearly. I'm not overly concerned as the buildings are fairly similar anyway, but I like to get things right where possible. It seems strange that the Troppenmuseum would switch the identification of these two buildings, but perhaps they were labeled incorrectly in the first place.. Like I said, not a big deal in any event, and if your source is generally reliable I can live with that.OrganicEarth (talk) 20:30, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I remember one time I saw a Tropenmuseum old photo of a cinema building with explanation being located in Batavia, but later turns out it was located in Palembang. They do make mistakes--Rochelimit (talk) 16:07, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
