edits by Iividigitalmedia/Photonics126

[edit]

Recently, User:Mikeblas added the conflict of interest box to the article. That seems to be because of the three recent edits done by User:Iividigitalmedia who has afterwards been renamed to User:Photonics126. In these three edits, Iividigitalmedia/Photonics126 updated the info box and updated a few numbers in the article to reflect the latest information from the 2021 annual report. He or she also deleted the information about the aquisition of Marlow Industries. So no controversial or biased information has been added by this user. Therefore I think that the conflict of interest box can be deleted from the article.--I-Supotco-new (talk) 00:07, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. Special:Contributions/I-Supotco-new and Special:Contributions/I-Supotco show mostly edits to this article, which seems like a borderline WP:SPA with a possible WP:COI. The edits by User:Photonics126 need to be examined by an editor with more experience with other articles. Cxbrx (talk) 06:22, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My name is Amy and I work for Coherent Corp. As I have a conflict of interest, I'd like to request input from impartial editors on the following proposed changes:
  • trim "innovations have included the world's first 200 mm SiC substrate" as promotion
  • Update the logo in the infobox
  • Add a "See also" section that links to Coherent, Inc.
  • Add {{About|Coherent Corporation|the company Coherent acquired and adopted the name of|Coherent, Inc.}} to the top
These changes are primarily intended to better clarify Coherent Corp. versus Coherent, Inc. and to address the tag by removing some promotional content I added previously (sorry).
@I-Supotco-new: @Cxbrx: I can confirm that Lividigitalmedia and Photonics126 are not me, but are Coherent employees. I apologize Coherent did not request changes the proper way and promise we are working to do better. Any feedback on how to repair the page from the company's prior transgressions are welcome. Best regards. WilsonWords (talk) 18:16, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Amy. I copyedited the History section and removed the statement about the first 200 mm SiC substrate. I replaced the logo. A link to Coherent, Inc. is not needed in See also, since it is linked in the body of the article. The see also section is intended for links that ought to appear in the article but do not (yet). See WP:SEEALSO for more on this. I added a simple hatnote. The relationship between the companies is covered well in the first paragraph and doesn't need to be crammed into the hatnote as well. --Srleffler (talk) 04:47, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Srleffler. A few notes. The logo you added was used temporarily during the transition from II-VI to Coherent Corp. Is it ok if I replace it with the current logo? (the same one on Coherent.com - without the old II-VI logo). The hatnote is confusing, because both companies are currently, and were historically, laser manufacturers. Finally, do you think there are other NPOV problems on the page? I am eager to help correct any problems created by my predecessors who didn't follow the rules. Best regards. WilsonWords (talk) 14:27, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The logo I posted is still in use at ii-vi.com, which is linked in the article as the company's official website. Should we be pointing to www.coherent.com as the official website now, or is that still focused on Coherent Inc. rather than the broader Coherent Corp.? Is the logo at the latter address the correct one for the combined company? If not, I'm inclined not to update the logo in the article until it appears on the company's home page.
I'll see what I can do about the hatnote. I have not reviewed the article for other NPOV issues.--Srleffler (talk) 19:57, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Srleffler: Sorry for the belated response. Coherent.com (not ii-vi.com) I think is better characterized as the official website. Coherent.com and the associated logo image are used in all of the company's press releases[1]. I asked around and it appears ii-vi.com is expected to be up for a while, until the web team finishes transferring all of the content to the new website. Let me know if this helps clear things up. WilsonWords (talk) 20:16, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I replaced the logo and fixed the link to the website.--Srleffler (talk) 07:06, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Adding co-founder name

[edit]

Hi. My name is Amy and I work for Coherent, the article-subject. I'd like to request adding James E. Hawkey as a cofounder as follows:

Coherent was founded as II-VI Incorporated in 1971 by Carl Johnson and James E. Hawkey.

Here is a news article that can be used as a citation. The article is about Hawkey's retirement and mentions he was a cofounder. Thank you in advance for taking a look at my proposed edit. Best regards. WilsonWords (talk) 20:22, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Coherent Corporation -> Coherent Corp.

[edit]

My name is Amy and I work for "Coherent Corp.". Currently, the infobox and Lead identify the company as "Coherent Corporation" with "Corp." spelled out "Corporation". MOS:FIRSTCORP and Template:Infobox company say to use the company's full legal name in the Lead and Infobox respectively.

Presumably, an editor (quite reasonably) assumed "Coherent Corporation" was the company's full legal name. However, you can see from Coherent's bylaws, IRS filings, and the formal organization documents with the Pennsylvania Secretary of State (findable here) that "Coherent Corp." really is the full legal name, not an abbreviated version of it.

My request is to change references to "Coherent Corporation" to "Coherent Corp.". Thanks in advance for considering my request. WilsonWords (talk) 19:05, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
