Many apologies - I've just edited the page (added a picture of the town from the air), and forgot to say what I did... IanCR 22:08, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What else is needed to get this article to GA?

[edit]

I've been looking at the guidelines at WP:UKCITIES and would be interested in what other editors think is need to get this article to meet the Wikipedia:Good article criteria? Obviously we need to expand the lead to summarise the article & reference (or remove) the uncited claims, but is there anything else which would be required?— Rod talk 08:01, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Checking against GA criteria

[edit]
GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
The article is reasonably well written. I made a number of copy-edits.[1]
There are a large number of stray sentences, please consolidate into paragraphs.
I have tried to combine some of these
  1. Walton Castle is a 17th century fort located on a hill Which hill?, as they are all mentioned this would help.
Done
  1. Clevedon Court lies at the other end of the town, can you phrase this better, other end from what? As Walton Castle hasn't been located this doesn't help the reader.
Done
  1. The lead contains information not in the artcile, e.g. the origin of the town name.
Moved
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
References all appear to be RS, no evidence of OR
  2. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
History - is there nothing available from the period between Domesday and the Victorian era?
No not really - I've added a sentence based on the town councils description of it as a small quiet agricultural village, but it doesn't seem to have any involvement in anything notable enough to have been written about.
  1. Production of penicillin, why, where?
Expanded & hopefully explained
  1. Economy could do with some expansion. No mention of tourism is made.
I can't find any sources which talk about numbers of visitors or contribution of tourism to the economy etc - although I've looked at hundreds of sites about accommodation available etc
  1. Demography (or should that be Demographics?). Consider expanding with breakdowns by ethnic origin, age bands, etc.
I've added something about age, religion & economic activity
  1. Although the poets are mentioned later on, some explanation of the name Poet's Walk is needed.
Done
  1. Unveiled in June 2000, the 5 ft (1.5 m) tall sculpture cost £9,000 Name of sculptor, who raised the money?
I've added a bit more - the best source I could find was Geograph - hope this source will be OK as RS?
  1. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  2. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  3. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  4. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
On hold for seven days, please leave comments on this review page. I have watch-listed the page. Jezhotwells (talk) 12:20, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comments and edits - hopefully some of your conce3rns have been addressed as set out above?— Rod talk 19:32, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  1. OK, thanks for the work in expansion, I am happy to pass this as a good article. Jezhotwells (talk) 22:05, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How notable is "notable"?

[edit]

A 19th century magistrate of British India was born, and lived for a great part of his life, in Clevedon until his death. He is notable in as far as he compiled a very important and voluminous work on Arabic grammar whilst discharging his duties as magistrate in the North-Western Provinces in the late 1800s. His work is unparalleled in any language on said subject, and was the first work of its kind, being published in 1880. Would it be acceptable to add Mortimer Sloper Howell to the list of "Notable People" in this article? Uq (talk) 00:17, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would say it depends on whether there is a reference to a reliable source which says he lived in the town.— Rod talk 08:13, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There are several sources that indicate his residing in Clevedon, the most important of which are the censuses of 1900 and 1910. These are accessible in the National Archive. Uq (talk) 12:29, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

School drama group in Education section

[edit]

JonBon565 added information about a school drama group named "Take the Lead" which had performed in the town. I removed it as uncited and with BLP issues. It was reinstered. I toned it down and added a reference. Bmcln1 revised it and then suggested it should be removed. What do others think?— Rod talk 13:30, 25 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
