Hi,

Mauritius and Réunion are two different entities, although very close. I don't know which is correct.

Linois in Fiction

[edit]

I did a check of Linois to find out more about the man mentioned in the Aubrey-Maturin series. I was surprised this was not noted so I added a quick mention that Linois appeared in that series. The Battle of Pulo Aura article mentions a 19th century work that has a fictionalized account of the battle. Anyone know if Linois was in that novel? If so, the article should mention it. Regarding his appearance in O'Brian's novels, what is the reason for describing his representation as incorrect? The single phrase "deep old file" is insufficient — Linois was well into his 40s at that point, hardly young, and in any case the same words are routinely used to describe younger characters as well so it clearly isn't meant as a literal statement of age. Everything from "where he is..." to the end of the sentence seems unsupported. Ederiel (talk) 16:28, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

"reasonably successful"?

[edit]

If you read about the engagements, you'll get the impression Linois was a coward and a failure; ridiculed by his own men. What's up with this positive spin? CapnZapp (talk) 13:38, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
