article move

[edit]

The page move was as a result of a conversation that I started on the season 1 page regarding the name of that article. While I think there needed to be consistancy with the name of the two articles, I did not agree that this article should have been moved, but since it has been done, I figured there should be documentation here about why it was done. --Jordan 1972 (talk) 20:14, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Naming of various Big Brother articles

[edit]

Hi! I started a discussion over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Big Brother about aligning all the various versions and seasons of Big Brother (franchise) with the guidelines of Wikipedia:Naming conventions (television). I created a table showing all the different various naming conventions currently in use and recommended article names based on my understanding of WP:NCTV. I'm posting this notice to all applicable areas for a broad discussion. Thank You! ♪♫Alucard 16♫♪ 20:27, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress

[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Big Brother (Quebec TV series) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 17:17, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Date formatting

[edit]

How come the date formatting is different here to what it is on the separate articles for each season, should it not all be the same? MSalmon (talk) 18:10, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Series overview section

[edit]

I think that the Series overview section should be changed to the U.S. version. It provides more information and gets rid of the need for unneeded sources. Jayab314 23:01, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 7 June 2019

The result of the move request was: consensus against the proposed moves (closed by non-admin page mover) DannyS712 (talk) 05:17, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

– would make a lot more sense since the American and British versions do this, too. Can we also please make Big Brother (Canadian TV series) the title of the article and not a redirect to Big Brother Canada? TheDoctorWho (talk) 01:00, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note I did not file the move request I just moved the discussion to a more-appropriate place and formatted it as in official move request. The official filer is User:Jayab314 TheDoctorWho (talk) 01:00, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm gonna oppose this move for now. It's my understanding that the official name of the program is called Big Brother Canada (which can even be seen from the title card ([1])). The American and British versions are only called Big Brother (Title card for U.S.: [2]) so that's why disambiguation is used there and not here. TheDoctorWho (talk) 00:44, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • @TheDoctorWho: Comment Can we rename Big Brother Canada to simply Big Brother Canada (TV series) instead? Jayab314 01:03, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Jayab314: I think that would be unnecessary disambiguation? If there was something else called Big Brother Canada such as a book or a radio program then by all means I would consider it. But in this case is would be disambiguating from nothing. TheDoctorWho (talk) 01:12, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • @TheDoctorWho: I would like to add (after doing a little "research") that Big Brother (Australian TV series) is called Big Brother Australia by news outlets and its own facebook account, yet it is still named accordingly instead of Big Brother Australia. Jayab314 01:23, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Jayab314 and TheDoctorWho: The naming convention currently in use for the Australian version was achieved by WikiProject consensus years ago. While the press and the FaceBook refers to the series as Big Brother Australia the opening graphics/title sequence consistently refers to the show as Big Brother so the article technically could be named either way. This is similar to how the Australian version of The Bachelor is often refereed to as The Bachelor Australia but the opening titles make no mention of "Australia" in the name so the default WP:NCTV guidelines are in play there. Shows like The Apprentice Australia include the country in the title because the logo/opening titles use this name similar to Big Brother Canada. Alucard 16❯❯❯ chat? 02:35, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm gonna also oppose this for now as there is an existing precedent to follow the guidelines of WP:NCTV which was established through a series of moves over the course of a year. The proper name of this edition is Big Brother Canada and the articles should be labeled as such which renders the disambiguators "(Canadian TV series)" and "(Canadian season)" unnecessary. Also the Canadian version has never emphasized numbers in the same manner as the American series has which is why the disambiguator "(season #)" is used. If the Canadian series begins to use numbers like the American version used to (i.e. including the # in the logo) then the first seven can be retroactively moved to match the new naming precedent if that were ever to occur. Alucard 16❯❯❯ chat? 02:30, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as the show name is Big Brother Canada and the number is not part of the name. We should stop making up numbered names when that isn't official. --Gonnym (talk) 09:14, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - the show's name is "Big Brother Canada". Paintspot Infez (talk) 21:25, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose moves. The show consistently refers to itself with "Canada" as part of the title. O.N.R. (talk) 21:33, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Making a separate title by season is not really necessary. Barca (talk) 14:28, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
