1973 split

[edit]

So the 1973 split happened without a permissive-dialing period? Not according to this, it didn't. Doctor Whom 17:33, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested new section for dialing requirements

[edit]

I suggest all Area Code specific articles such as this one should have a section on whether a caller in this area, can dial 7 digit numbers in their local area, if they are required to dial the area code to call other numbers in their own area code. Whether it is 1+ area code and number, commonly referred to as 11 digit dailing or no 1+, just area code and number, commonly referred to as 10 digit dialing and what other area codes they can dial using 10 digit dailing. I do not know the specifics for this/these area code(s), maybe someone familiar with the requirements for this area could add such a section.

Please note: If you are testing these requirements by seeing how you can dial numbers in this area for this new section, please be sure you are using a standard telephone on a standard telephone (POTS) line from the local carrier and not going through a PBX (phone system) as it may be programmed to automatically add or delete area codes and/or the 1 for 10 or 11 digit dialing.

I suggest using a section called "Dialing Requirements for XXX", where XXX is the area code(s) the article covers. Ceo255 (talk) 02:24, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a section on dialing requirements, with source. As for the other area codes that can be dialed as local, that would be too burdensome, since it depends on the individual calling and called exchanges; local calling is typically determined by rate center rather than by area code.
