This is part of a biographical series intended to throw more light on the Roman Empire's 'Third Century Crisis'.Pjbjas (talk) 14:52, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have a point to make regarding Aper, but my cat is walking over my keyboard. Back later.Pjbjas (talk) 15:12, 22 December 2013 (UTC) I note that when Aper governed Pannonia it was with the rank of Vir Egregius and the same was the with Publius Aelius Aelianus when he governed Mauritania Caesarensis. However, when Lucius Aurelius Marcianus governed Dalmatia for the Emperor Probus at about the same time he was a Vir Perfectissimus. Can anybody explain this apparent anomaly? Did Dalmatia rank above Pannonia and Mauritania in the order of precedence or was social status not a decisive factor when it came to appointing equestrian governors? I should be grateful for any pointers.92.17.192.108 (talk) 20:38, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
