Floated

[edit]

Floated. Unsure whether it's a stub or start class. Needs photo which can be uploaded here (note: the photographer is presumed to own the copyright, ie a person simply can't fish an image off the Internet.)--Tomwsulcer (talk) 14:13, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

To accent or not to accent: that is the question

[edit]

About whether the name should be accented -- the sources are fairly evenly divided, with most of them not using the accent mark, but others adding it (particularly Spanish publications). At present, there is a Chilean poet with the accented name, so it's easy distinguishing the two, but it's not clear at present what the community might want regarding the accents and page names, or whether there needs to be a disambiguation page for the accented Alfonso Calderon.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 14:13, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality

[edit]

Is Calderon a Spanish citizen or an American one? He was born in Spain, but he's been living in the USA for the past ten years. There have been no media reports saying that he's not American, or even making an issue of his nationality, so it seems reasonable to conclude he's an American citizen.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 12:57, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I was just about to ask this :) I should have better explained my edit, this source [1] describes Calderon as being Spanish. I am not sure why Spanish would not be listed as his nationality in the infobox. While he is a student and resident in the US, can we assume that he also has American nationality? My intention was to reflect what the sources I saw state and not make any assumptions. Thsmi002 (talk) 13:03, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you're right, my goof.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 14:42, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I could have been clearer. Thsmi002 (talk) 15:41, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notablity

[edit]

Why in the world is this kid even mentioned here? Theres only a handful of articles that mention Calderon and he's clearly not a main member of this group as the other three students. Nothing has been reported on him and two others (Guttenberg and Chadwick) in more than two weeks. This does not meet notability standards and should be deleted as it adds no new information to the subject. The same author mysteriously is creating all these articles in a period of a few days utilizing a few flimsy sources. Lets all wait until April at the least.100.33.114.169 (talk) 01:24, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kid? Nope. Calderon is a man. Notability? There's tons of articles on Calderon and the other activists. Flimsy sources? Newsweek, The New Yorker, Mediaite, CNN and others are all reliable sources. Contributing to Wikipedia is not such a mystery, it's just simply following the rules.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 01:47, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is supposed to be neutral. This isn’t the place for your opinions.Bjoh249 (talk) 08:23, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An adult you say, please don't be obtuse and play word games. A few appearances on tv and a few dozen articles does not meet the notability standards on wikipedia. If you're so sure these people will stay on as individual activists (which is doubtful as they are on the perimeter of the main group of students) then you won't mind redirecting this and the two other pages to the main article and waiting until at least April. Then a decision of nobility OUTSIDE of this may warrant individual pages. Until then, its simply adding clutter and useless articles that have little meaning outside of the days news cycle. But I can tell you are not objective in your reasoning and have a strong political inclination to make as many pointless articles on other students you find favorable as possible. Why not one for Kyle Kashov? He's more than notably at this point? Do as you will but know that someone will nominate these for deletion and rightfully so. At this point we are way to early in this game to be making prognostications on who will or will not be a famous gun control activist in the future.100.33.114.169 (talk) 02:10, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Curious--if the article is "useless", why has it been viewed over 4000 times in eleven days?--Tomwsulcer (talk) 11:27, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Has he done anything since March? Deb (talk) 22:51, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Has Abraham Lincoln done anything since March? By your logic, maybe we should tag that article too. Notability isn't something that expires if a subject doesn't stay in the news; check out WP:N.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 03:14, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
On the contrary - see WP:SINGLEEVENT. Deb (talk) 09:04, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, three events: (1) surviving a massacre (2) organizing an activist group (3) becoming a TV spokesperson against gun violence.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 12:15, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You are obsessed with defending this guy. Wikipedia is supposed to be neutral. Bjoh249 (talk) 08:23, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
