Sivagiri, Alagapuri and Elayirampannai were the three "vanniya" palayams of the south. The polegars were vanniyars and not from "Bania or Vannia subcaste of maravas". Please remove this statement as this confuses the readers. I understand that you have quoted it from the website Princely states of India which inturn quotes K.Sridhar's book "History of Maravars". Please understand that this book is of recent origin (1970) and does not quote any government census or anyother reliable source.

Whereas that Sivagiri, Alagapuri and Elayirampannai polegars were Vanniyas by caste is mentioned in so many governement gazetters and district manuals of the british India and they base this information on the government census data.
