Chu's review found some mistakes!

[edit]

The review by Chu Hung-lam stated that the book made some mistakes in Chinese. See page 405 (from PDF p. 6/6):

  • p. 302 of the book misspells Wei Hsiao as "Wei Chiao"
  • Wrong Chinese characters for: Kuo-ch'ao hsien-cheng lu, Lü Nan, Ming-tai ti ju-hsüeh chiao-kuan, P'eng Hui-an chiT'ang Hsien-tsu, Wei Ch'ing-yuan, Yeh Ch'un-chi, and Yeh Sheng.
  • Chu described the translation of, on page 209, Yin Chih's criticism of Wu Yü-pi, as "less than accurate in presenting the views and comments of the grand secretary Li Hsien as quoted by Yin."
  • Dardess stated that Yin Chih criticized the "Three Yangs" when it was actually done by Ch'iu Chün, and that Yin Chih complimented Yang Shih-ch'i in the preface of the Taihe County Gazetteer written in 1497
