– Per WP:WikiProject Football/League season, if the league is decided by a knock-out tournament after the conclusion of the regular season, the word "season" should be attached to the title. Other American soccer league seasons follow this rational already (eg. 2018 Major League Soccer season, 1972 North American Soccer League season). All seasons linked in this RM included a playoff/knock-out tournament. BLAIXX 16:07, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why only those seasons? and Switching Back and Forth

[edit]
I'm curious as to why you chose to include only some of ASL seasons in your request for this change. Do all of the following years not also fit into this same criteria?

...as well as three of the five Western Soccer Alliance seasons, the league that merged with the ASL to form the APSL in 1990.

Is there any practical reason not to just add "season" to all of the ASL years going back to 1921? While I really don't have a preference either way, it seems like not going back to the beginning and changing all of them will create a degree of awkwardness/randomness to the common viewer, when (in sequence) some ASL years will be titled 19xx American Soccer League season, and others 19xx American Soccer League. Especially when it would change back and forth in the 1960s and 1970s. Just trying to look at from an outsiders POV. Cheers, -Creativewill (talk) 18:12, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Creativewill: To be honest, I did not include those you mentioned above because I just did not see them. I'm sure that there are even more that we both missed. The reason I did not nominate all ASL season articles is because there has been a long standing consensus at WP:FOOTBALL to title the articles as I mentioned above. You do bring up a good point about consistency between the same league and perhaps it is time to revisit that titling guideline. BLAIXX 01:24, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
