Sumit Gupta

Sumit Gupta is an Indian entrepreneur and the CEO and co-founder of CoinDCX.[1][2][3] [4]

Early life

Gupta completed his Bachelor of Technology and Masters of Technology in 2014 from IIT Bombay in Electrical engineering. He began his career as a Software Engineer at Sony in Japan. He then returned to India to co-found ListUp, a platform for buying and selling pre-owned electronics. ListUp raised $0.5M seed funding led by Kae Capital with participation from Kunal Shah (Freecharge, Chairman) and Sandeep Tandon (Tandon Group).[5] [6]

Career

In April 2018, Gupta co-founded CoinDCX with Neeraj Khandelwal, aiming to create a platform that allows any Indian to buy, sell and trade crypto assets and web3 products/services. [7] The company quickly attracted significant attention and investment, securing backing from prominent investors such as Polychain Capital, Coinbase Ventures, and Bain Capital Ventures. A major milestone was achieved in August 2021 when CoinDCX raised $90 million in Series C funding, propelling its valuation to $1.1 billion and marking it as India's first crypto unicorn. Building on this success, in April 2022, CoinDCX raised an additional $135 million in Series D funding [8], led by Pantera Capital and Steadview Capital, which doubled its valuation to $2.15 billion. Initiatives and philosophy

Gupta is also the founding member of the Bharat Web3 Association [14] [15] [16] and is an active participant in driving the Virtual Digital Assets (VDA) and educational initiatives like DCXLearn to promote Web3 adoption in India. He emphasizes the importance of regulatory clarity and a conducive environment for the growth of crypto trading in India.[17]
