The book covers Darth Sidious's relationship with his master, Darth Plagueis,[2] and the origin of Starkiller Base.[3] The book is written from the perspective of Darth Sidious.[4] Author Marc Sumerak emphasized the challenge of writing from Palpatine’s perspective, balancing the character's cunning public persona with his power-mad tendencies.[5]
