Rony Tan was a Singaporean pastor associated with the charismatic movement. He was the founder of Lighthouse Evangelism.
Career
[edit]Tan was the founder of Lighthouse Evangelism. On 9 February 2010, Tan privately met with Buddhist and Taoist representatives at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery and apologised for his "insensitive" and "offensive" comments about their religions.[1] A spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs described Tan's comments as "highly inappropriate and unacceptable as they trivialised and insulted the beliefs of Buddhists and Taoists", while noting that they could "also give rise to tension and conflict between the Buddhist/Taoist and Christian communities."[2] The same month, some eighty police reports were lodged against Tan for his unspecified remarks about the LGBTQ community.[3]
Personal life
[edit]Tan was married to Kwee Hong, with whom he had a son and a daughter. He died on 16 September 2024, aged 79.[4]
