Life

[edit]

Todd gained early recognition in the cryptocurrency community for his work on Bitcoin Core.[3]

In addition to Bitcoin, Todd has worked on other cryptographic projects such as OpenTimestamps, which uses blockchain technology to create verifiable timestamps,[4] and Zcash.[5]

In 2024, Todd was mentioned in the HBO documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, which speculated on the identity of Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.[6] Todd has publicly denied being Nakamoto.[7]

Cryptography software

[edit]

Todd has been involved in the development and auditing of various cryptographic protocols within the blockchain space.[8] One of his notable contributions is OpenTimestamps, a protocol he developed to create secure and verifiable timestamps using blockchain technology.[9] Beyond OpenTimestamps, Todd has been an active contributor to the Bitcoin Core project, where he helped improve the security of the Bitcoin network by reviewing and auditing code.[10]

Controversies

[edit]

In 2019, Todd faced accusations of sexual misconduct from a member of the cryptocurrency community.[11][12][13] Todd denied the allegations and subsequently filed a defamation lawsuit against the accuser.[14] The lawsuit was settled in 2021,[15] with the terms of the settlement not being publicly disclosed.[16][17]
