National Gendarmerie (Burkina Faso)

The National Gendarmerie (Gendarmerie Nationale) is the national gendarmerie force of Burkina Faso. It is one of the two national police forces, alongside the civilian National Police force.[1]

The National Gendarmerie's missions primarily involve anti-irregular military, apprehension of armed and dangerous criminals, intelligence gathering and counterintelligence, operating in difficult to access terrain, providing security to important locations that are at risk of attack or terrorism, support crowd control and riot control when in a unrest and chaos, support counterinsurgency operations, and tactical law enforcement in hard to reach areas.

The service is a branch of the Burkina Faso military acting under the authority of the Minister of Defence.[2]
