Olasunkanmi Quadri Taoreed, popularly known as Kogbagidi,[1] is a Nigerian show promoter[2] and businessman born in Lagos in 1989.[3] He hails from the Kinyun Royal Family of Lagos, with his mother from Epetedo and his father from Ijede/Agbowa/Okepopo.[4] He spent his early years in Surulere, Lagos,[5] where he attended K. Kotun Memorial School and later Federal Government College, Warri.[6] Kogbagidi obtained a bachelor's degree in International Relations and Personnel Management from Lagos State University in 2012. During his time in university, he was active in student unionism, which helped shape his leadership and networking skills.

Career

[edit]

Kogbagidi is widely recognized for his work as a show promoter in Nigeria's entertainment industry.[7] He began his career over a decade ago and gained prominence working with several top artists,[8] including D'Banj, Davido, Dammy Krane, Zlatan Ibile, and CDQ. Kogbagidi's knack for organizing and promoting events made him a highly sought-after figure in the Nigerian music scene.[9] Over the years, he has built a reputation as a key figure in artist management and event promotion, playing a critical role in helping young artists achieve success.[10]

Relationship with Portable

[edit]

One of the most notable aspects of Kogbagidi's career was his involvement with the controversial Nigerian artist, Portable.[11] Kogbagidi was instrumental in Portable's[12] rise to fame, particularly after the release of the hit song "Zazoo Zeh" in collaboration with Olamide and Poco Lee. However, the relationship between Kogbagidi and Portable became strained, with several public fallouts.[13] The first incident occurred when Portable accused Poco Lee of song hijacking and financial mismanagement, leading to a public rift between Portable and his management, including Kogbagidi. The promoter expressed disappointment in Portable's behavior, describing it as unruly. Eventually, the two parties reconciled, but further controversies emerged, leading to Portable's departure from Kogbagidi's management.

Controversies

[edit]

Kogbagidi has been at the center of several public controversies, many of which stem from his association with Portable. The most significant of these controversies occurred when Portable accused Kogbagidi of mismanaging funds and taking gifts meant for him, claims that led to further public disputes. After their professional relationship deteriorated, Kogbagidi posted cryptic messages on social media that appeared to address the situation, metaphorically alluding to the challenges of dealing with difficult artists.

Despite these controversies, Kogbagidi remains a respected figure in the entertainment industry, continuing to work with high-profile artists and promoting successful events across Nigeria.[14]
