Yinka Ola-Williams, legally named Adeyinka Ola-Williams, is a Theatre, Media, and Development Specialist with over 25 years of extensive theatre expertise for development, and behavioural communication change. He is trained in leveraging the arts to advocate for human rights, reproductive rights, gender equality, health, education, and alternative communications. Through decades of practice and training, Yinka has demonstrated a profound ability to utilise theatrical instruments to promote social change and advance critical issues within local communities and among regional and global audiences.

Background

Yinka Ola-Williams began his career as a stage actor, producer, and playwright. For over 30 years, he has worked with children in both private and public schools to promote their rights, development, and participation through Drama. He was also the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Prodigy Magazine, a children's magazine.

Yinka Ola-Williams has received numerous international training awards and scholarships to expand and advance his skills and expertise. The Ford Foundation and the Institute of International Education, New York, granted him a scholarship to study Drama at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and Creative Arts Business at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Additionally, he received funding from the British Council to attend the International Networking Events (INE) course on Promoting Rights and Development through the Arts at the University of Leeds in England.

His unpublished play, "WOROKO," won the 5th National Troupe of Nigeria Play Reading Session in 2000. He was selected as a member of the Change Agent Program when he visited Ghana in 2001 on a study tour funded by the U.K. Department for International Development (DFID) for the reformation of Nigeria's health system. Furthermore, he was commissioned by The Africa Leadership Forum to stage a play entitled "AJAKA" during the Africa Women Forum and the UNDP regional conference on AIDS/HIV in Africa, among other significant events.

Recognition

Yinka Ola-Williams's career has been recognized globally, earning him numerous international consultancy roles. In 2004, the British Council contracted him to train and lead a troupe of young Nigerians in an international exchange program called "Contacting the World" in Manchester, U.K. He was later offered a residency program at Contact Theatre in the U.K., sponsored by the British Council. Upon returning to Nigeria, Yinka served as the Associate Producer and Creative Consultant for a T.V. reality show, broadcast on 28 stations across Nigeria from November to December 2005.

Career

In 2006, Yinka was employed by The National Theatre of Scotland as an International Director, working with students at the University of Glasgow and The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama to devise new methodologies in theatre directing for a project titled "DIASPORA." Additionally, Yinka has been involved in several feature-length film productions, co-producing some with the Irish film company Vast Valley Productions.

On the local scene, Yinka Ola-Williams continues to make a significant impact through his development activities. He is the Executive Director of Ancient Theatre Company, one of Nigeria's foremost community-based theatre organisations based in Lagos, and the Program Manager of Change Studio, a developmental multimedia agency. He has also worked as a program manager at First Foundation and as the Artistic Director and Business Development Manager at OO PL Theatre, part of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Foundation in Abeokuta. Yinka served as the state Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) Ogun State Chapter for eight years and is now the Director of Finance at the national level. He also serves as Ogun State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), one of Nigeria's oldest political parties.

He is a Fellow of Theatre Arts (FTA) and a member of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), among other organizations. Yinka Ola-Williams’s company, Yow Digital Media LLC (USA) and Yow Digital Media Limited (Nigeria) operate a broadcast channel on Roku with four affiliated channels on YouTube, all poised to become a global brand in content creation, sales and acquisition, broadcasting and emerging media with focus on African renaissance, advocacy, empowerment, sharing accurate information, cultural exchange.

Personal Life

Yinka Ola-Williams is currently the Chairman of the Coalition of Theatre Arts Associations in Ogun State and the Chairman of the Lyceum Foundation/ Lyceum Schools Limited that operates Lyceum Montessori School, Lyceum College, Lyceum Training & Consult, Lyceum Special School, and Lyceum Pre-University, all based in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. Yinka manages Lyceum Montessori school with his erudite wife, Dr. Maureen Chinasa Ola-Williams, and they both reside in Abeokuta with their five children.
