Virvum is a Swiss death metal band from Zurich, Switzerland, founded in 2007. They are currently signed to Season of Mist.[1]

History

[edit]

Virvum was founded in 2007 by young friends Bryan Berger and Nic Gruhn. The band underwent various lineup changes during its early years, with guitarrist Toby Koelman and drummer Diego Morenzoni joining in 2010 and 2011, respectively.[2] 2012-2015, they had their first live appearances in the underground of Switzerland and surroundings' metal scenes, providing local support for bands like Dying Fetus, Psycroptic or Fleshgod Apocalypse. In July 2016, after a year of working and recording, they premiered a lyric video for the Song "Ad Rigorem", and after two more song premieres, the band released their debut album "Illuminance" on September 16th 2016.

In 2017, Virvum signed to Season of Mist, re-released "Illuminance"[3][4][5][6][7], and went on a European tour in support of Beyond Creation. The same year, the band embarked on their first ever US-Tour with Vale Of Pnath.[8] In 2018, Virvum went on tour in Europe, supporting Ne Obliviscaris and Allegaeon[9]. Shortly after, the band announced Arran McSporran as a full time member.[10] A Co-Headliner tour with Bloodshot Dawn, a short tour in support of The Black Dahlia Murder, as well as an extensive second US-Tour with Archspire [11] followed in 2019. The band announced their first headliner tour with support of Alterbeast and Arkaik for 2020, but all appearances had to be cancelled due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2020, the band confirmed that they are working on a second album.
