Terrible Posture Games is an independent game company founded in 2014 by industry veteran Joe Mirabello, notable for the breakout success of their FPS games Tower of Guns and Mothergunship.[1]
History
[edit]Following the closure of 38 Studios, Joe Mirabello opened his studio in 2014 and started working on a FPS game Tower of Guns which received great reviews.[1]
Following the success of Tower of Guns, the fledgling studio started work on a new project entitled Mothergunship. In early 2017 the fast paced, roguelite FPS started to receive notice. In a PlayStation Blog post Petr Ciesarík notes that the addition of a crafting system will set the game apart from its contemporaries, stating "We’ve seen modular crafting systems like this in slower-paced space games where you can build out component-based spaceships, but we believe this is the first time an FPS has incorporated this kind of crafting into their guns, and the result is delightfully ludicrous; twelve-barrel lightning guns, shotguns that fire rockets, etc. It’s a system that’s very fun to play and encourages experimentation."[2] This sentiment was expanded on in November 2017 in a separate post[3] to PlayStation Blog as well. The game would eventually release in July of 2018 to mostly positive reviews on Steam, with the gaming news outlet DualShockers stating that it is "Fast and Furious First-Person Shooting Fun"[4]
In 2020, Joe Mirabello moved away from the FPS games to make a new original game for free on the Epic Games store. 3 out of 10 was a new experimental project that was inspired from his odd experiences at 38 Studios and was made as the world’s first playable sitcom, making it part gameplay and part animated show. It was released later on March 2021 for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch.[5] A second season of the game was released next year around April. By May 2021, the studio signed a deal with Dj2 Entertainment to make a television series based on their successful sitcom game.[6]
In July 2022, Terrible Posture Games collaborated with Skybound Games to assist on the story for Genvid Interactive and Pipework Studios' The Walking Dead: Last Mile as a free game on Facebook Gaming.[7] By November 2023, the studio developed and published a new game only on windows with Skybound Games again but as a RPG/Visual novel titled Invincible Presents: Atom Eve with features an original story focusing around the character Atom Eve.[8]
In 2024, however, the situation for the small indie studio was looking grim. Conversations with publishers and venture capitalists were not leading to any funding.[9] Pitches for new games were not leading anywhere and by March it seemed as though the studio would need to shut down. Thankfully, a conversation Mirabello had with his friend Nate Chatellier of Nerd Ninjas offered support in the form of funding. Thus the new title Battle Train received the funding it needed to get off the ground. The company chose to further supplement development costs via a Kickstarter Campaign, which met its funding goal on October 1, 2024. The demo for the game has been received positively, with gaming news website HardCore Gamer noting " As tactical and strategic as it can get, there's always a sense of humor underpinning the works to make victory more entertaining or a losing hand or strategy go down easier."[10]
