Simon Richard Williams (born September 26, 1985)[1] is a British music journalist, writer, and former radio presenter specializing in independent music. He is the founder and head of Sheffield (formerly London) based independent record label, Fierce Panda Records.
He wrote for British magazine New Musical Express (NME) for 11 years (1988-1999)[2] and was the drive time radio DJ for XFM (1994-1997). He has been referred to as the "most indie man alive" by the Evening Standard.[3]
Jump Away... Fanzine
[edit]In the mid-1980s, Simon started work on a series of fanzines titled "Jump Away..." with friend and fellow indie enthusiast Marie Belsten. Each issue was given a different subtitle with a total of 5 issues being distributed throughout 1986 and 1987.[4]

The zine featured articles on new bands like The Ogdens and The Ryecatchers, as well as live reviews and inverviews with bands such as The Farmer's Boys, The Darling Buds, and The Wolfhounds. The first interview conducted for the zine was with The Icicle Works at the Electric Ballroom towards the end of 1985. The zine also contained cartoons and tabloid spoofs in a similar fashion to Viz, and one issue contained an interview with English comedian Harry Enfield. It even covered more serious topics like Apartheid.
The zine was sold at various locations around London including the Rough Trade record shop in West London, Ugly Child record shop in East London, and the Bull & Gate in Kentish Town.
Temptation Records 2002-2004
[edit]Temptation Records was a joint venture between Simon Williams and Universal managing director Paul Adams. The focus of this new label was developing the long-term careers of bands, rather than the one-off singles that had become associated with Fierce Panda.
The first two signings by the label were Medium 21 and The Rain Band. Both bands performed at Temptation Records' launch night at London's Metro Club on November 7, 2002.
